Cities and towns in the US are compiling private DNA databases, separate and apart from the FBI national database.  Methods of collecting DNA vary from place to place, are unregulated and often have no citizen oversight board.  Melbourne and Palm Bay are on the forefront of this effort.  This article from ProPublica sheds more light on what is taking place in our communities.
