CPAC Celebrates Citizens United

The Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) empanelled a number of lawyers and campaign finance experts last weekend to "celebrate Citizens United" - i.e., Citizens United v Federal Election Commission, the 2010 Supreme Court decision which makes it possible for corporations (and unions) to spend unlimited amounts of money from their treasuries on political campaigns.  (I include unions parenthetically because, although media descriptions of the ruling almost always list “corporations and unions,” the truth is that unions are so outgunned that they may as well just keep their money.

When George W. Bush campaigned as a Compassionate Conservative, the concept was meant to appeal to Independent voters who didn't want heartless laws or more of the same-old same-old power grab. It turned out to be a mere public relations ploy to win votes.

Lake Nona VA Project Disaster.

In April of 2010 I began writing about the Lake Nona VA Hospital that had just started construction.  We in the Building Trades tried to warn VA compliance officers that because contractors on the project were hiring untrained and unskilled workers, the project was in danger of being sub-standard.  Unfortunately, it is even worse than we had feared.
