A Message from the Space Coast Progressive Alliance

On behalf of all SCPA members, your president, Phil Stasik, expresses our outrage and sympathy at the horrific mass shooting that just occurred in Orlando.

It appears that the LGBT community may have been targeted. We stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters.

URGENT NEED FOR BLOOD DONATIONS IN COMING WEEK

As of this afternoon, the critically urgent need for blood donations in Orlando has been met, thanks to overwhelming response to the emergency call for blood donations. OneBlood advises us to please arrange to donate blood in coming days. Blood seems to always be in short supply, especially in an emergency like this. The gift of blood is the gift of life, and the habit of blood donation is the epitome of humanity. Please see information below about how to make an appointment to donate blood in the coming days, as advised by OneBlood.

GUN VIOLENCE

At what point will Americans feel enough outrage to demand that our elected leaders take steps to fight the epidemic of gun violence across our nation? We must do something to fight gun violence. Please go to the website of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, see at www.bradycampaign.org -- to learn what you can do.

With profound sadness and solidarity,

Phil Stasik, President
Space Coast Progressive Alliance

BLOOD DONOR REQUIREMENTS

Generally healthy people age 16 or older who weigh at least 110 pounds can donate blood. Photo ID is required. To learn more about the importance of blood donation and how donors can target the power of their blood type visit oneblood.org. All donors receive a wellness checkup of blood pressure, pulse, temperature and iron count, including a cholesterol screening.

One of three people will need blood in their lifetime. Blood that is donated today will likely be transfused within two to three days. The turn-around is that fast, the need is constant.

NEWS REPORTS

Blood banks at capacity, donors urged to return in coming days
Orlando Sentinel, by Stephen Hudak, 12:37pm

Overwhelmed by people wanting to donate blood to victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting, OneBlood asked donors to stop coming Sunday and schedule appointments over the next few days.

"I've been here 13 years and never seen a response like this," said Pat Michaels, a spokesman for OneBlood, as he revealed the blood centers were at capacity with walk-up donors.

"The sentiment is understood and appreciated, but it's a little too much, too soon," he said.

But the supply will need to be replenished, Michaels said. ...
