You will not be Reelected
By Bob Serody

As expected, the Senate voted down four amendments with common-sense access restrictions to guns after Chris Murphy’s filibuster forced the Republican majority to agree to bring these measures up for a vote. Obviously, those senators under the control of the NRA did not want the adverse publicity of permitting terrorists to commit mass murder using assault-style weapons. These senators are flouting the 90% of the American public who say that enough is enough.

Democrats are reviving the core of a bipartisan plan from 2013 that would establish a universal background checks system, including at gun shows and for Internet sales.

The four amendments — two filed by Sens. Dianne Feinstein, D-California, and Chris Murphy, D-Connecticut, and two other, less restrictive measures filed by Sens. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and John Cornyn, R-Texas — addressed background checks of prospective gun buyers and the sale of guns and explosives to people on terrorist watch lists.

"I’m going to take some of my energy and help make sure that people who cast the wrong vote don’t come” back to the Senate, said Sen. Chris Murphy. To help Senator Murphy, please contact all those who voted against the bills including the four senators who call themselves Democrats. The senator from Florida who voted no is, of course, Marco Rubio.

I would like to suggest that you respond immediately with letter, email, or phone call with the following message:

The American public knows who you are. Ninety percent of Americans are against the terribly lax gun laws that permit bloody mayhem in our neighborhoods. Every civilized nation knows that the term “militia” refers to the armed forces, not individual citizens. Weapons of mass destruction do not belong in the hands of civilians. Your demonstrated fear of the NRA by voting as a part of a group and not as an individual according to your conscience shows that you are not worthy of holding the position of United States Senator. We will work tirelessly to ensure that you won’t be reelected when your term expires.

Here is the list of senators who voted no. Make sure they hear from you.
