Regarding Baltimore Police, death of Freddie Gray and Marshall Frank's opinion in Florida Today
by Simon M. Pristoop
Once again, Marshall Frank goes shooting from the hip without a clue, devoting a full column [Florida Today opinion, August 3, 2016) to exculpating the Baltimore police in the death of Freddie Gray, while insisting their prosecution was racially motivated. Were Frank from Baltimore, as I am, he might have had some insight to the truth.
Freddie Gray was dumped into a steel can, a paddy wagon, with seats and whatever other internal steel structures. He was intentionally not belted into a seat. The police then began a game they regularly play with captives they may not like. They drive their steel tube with sharp stops, rapid starts, acute turns, all with the intent of making their prisoner rattle around within this dangerous environment. Usually, the prisoner only gets an unjustifiable beating by ‘natural forces’; apparently, this ‘game’ can, and did, result in a broken neck and death.
So a man is killed by brutal police misconduct and no one is to blame? Give me a break!
By the way, my son, Steve, was a career police officer and my son Robert a highly respected detective, both for the DC Metropolitan Police Department, so rest assured, this letter does not come from anti-police bias.
