SCPA Supports Disaster Relief. Will You?

An Important Message from Phil Stasik, SCPA President

Dear Fellow SCPA Member or Supporter:

These have been an extraordinary few weeks, haven’t they?  Between the powerful hurricanes and the earthquakes, so many people have had so  much pain. The Space Coast was certainly not spared.  Many of us have personally suffered from Hurricane Irma, yet we all feel sympathy and  empathy for those who have died, lost loved ones, or lost their homes and property.

Empathy for others is a strong characteristic of Progressive and Liberal people. We all want to help others at times like these.

At last Sunday’s meeting, your SCPA Board voted to contribute $200 to the AFL-CIO Workers Relief Fund to help victims of Hurricane Irma.  Supporting our brothers and sisters in Organized Labor is a key mission of the SCPA in the best of times, but we all believe that now is the time to pitch-in to help lift them up them up when they need our help most.  If you would personally like to help suffering workers, we encourage you to click on this link to contribute: https://actionnetwork.org/fundraising/florida-workers-relief-fund/ .

Hurricanes Irma, Jose, and Maria have devastated islands across the Caribbean and western Atlantic, so we also decided to contribute $200 to help victims in Puerto Rico and the islands via a local relief effort, at the Brevard Puerto Rican Action Initiative (Iniciativa Acción Puertorriqueña - INIT Brevard) that has been set up for that purpose. They are requesting donations of a wide range of supplies and money. If you would personally like to contribute to this effort, we encourage you to click here to go to their FaceBook page: https://www.facebook.com/iniciativaaccionpuertorriquenabrevard/.

 Sincerely, Phil Stasik
