A Florida Redistricting Primer: The Law and Process in the Sunshine State
Thursday, August 12, 3 – 4:30 p.m. ET
This 90-minute seminar will provide an overview of the process and law of redistricting in Florida. We outline the legislative and judicial process for redistricting, then lay out the different doctrines and legal constraints in this evolving area of law – including Florida’s Fair Districts Amendments, the Voting Rights Act, racial gerrymandering, and “one person, one vote.”
There will be special attention on the law’s application in Florida during the 2010 cycle, and what we can expect from the upcoming cycle. Additionally, we will discuss we know about the Legislature’s preparations for this coming cycle, and data difficulties resulting from the chaotic 2020 Census. Fifteen minutes will be reserved at the end for a Q&A.
CLE for 2.0 General credit hours
(including 2.0 State and Federal Government and Administrative Practice Certification)
