BETTY WHITE CHALLENGE AND YAPPY HOUR AT EL CHICO BY TOUCH OF GREY RESCUE
Today would have been Betty White’s 100th birthday, and the Betty White Challenge is sweeping the nation! This challenge encourages everyone to pick a local shelter or animal rescue and donate just $5 (more if you’d like) in her name.
Whether you knew Betty White from the Mary Tyler Moore show, Golden Girls, her comeback hosting SNL, or her many talk show appearances, you always got the same Betty. Regardless of what character was she was playing, her genuinely sweet, funny and joyful spirit always shone through.
Betty was a pioneer in animal advocacy, hosting her own TV show called the “Pet Set” in the 70s. She adopted many shelter animals herself, and was heavily involved with the SPCA, the Morris Foundation and the Los Angelas Zoo. Betty didn’t just advocate for animals, she also advocated for human rights, and was a strong supporter of the LGBTQ+ community.
In other words? She was a hero. She was a trailblazer of positivity, way ahead of her time. We were devastated when we heard Betty died, less than 20 days before her 100th birthday. It was Ryan Reynolds that said: “Betty managed to grow so old, yet not old enough.” We couldn’t agree more.
Please join us in the #bettywhitechallenge in honor of her 100th birthday, and donate just $5 (more if you’d like!) to our rescue in her name.
Happy Birthday Betty. Wherever you are, we hope you can see or feel all the good that is happening right now in your name.
