This past year, we rode an emotional, economic, and health roller coaster together. We’ve experienced loss throughout the COVID pandemic and at the hands of the police. We know we need transformational change for our communities now. Join us on Wednesday, May 26, for our next “We Make the Way” segment “Say Their Names: Ending Police Violence in Florida.”
On the same day Derek Chauvin was convicted for murdering George Floyd, 16-year-old Ma’Khia Bryant was killed by the Columbus police. Real justice will only be achieved in our country when no more Black lives are harmed or taken by racist policing institutions. We must re-examine approaches to public safety entirely – and work actively to reduce the role, scale, power, and funding of the police. Our panelists will discuss ways we can transform public safety in America – by replacing police officers in our communities with community-based, civilian-led solutions instead.
